About INL

The Icelandic National League of Iceland was founded on December 1, 1939, when a group of dedicated Icelanders met in the boardroom of the Eimskip Shipping Company. An informal association had already been active for some time, but this gathering marked the formal beginning of the League. Its purpose was to strengthen communication and cooperation between Icelanders in the East and the West, as it was phrased at the time. The Icelandic National League of North America, the League’s sister organization across the Atlantic, had been established twenty years earlier.
